St. Martin of Tours in Amityville is celebrating 86 years of bringing children a solid Catholic education. In 1921, when the school was opened there were only eight classrooms and five sisters teaching. The school grew so rapidly, however, that in 1938 another room was added and a kindergarten was started. The teaching staff was increased to nine sisters.
