Five school children were injured when a school bus in which they were riding veered off County Line Road in North Amityville this morning, striking two cars parked in the driveway and crashing through a home there.

The children were being driven to Western Suffolk BOCES James E. Allen Elementary School in Dix Hills when the accident occurred. They were taken to Good Samaritan Medical Center in West Islip and were reported to have only minor injuries.

The accident occurred at approximately 7:45 a.m., and police said the drive apparently had a medical emergency, losing control of the bus at County Line Road and Ritter Avenue.

NAFCo and Amityville fire department volunteers responded to the scene along with Suffolk County Police.

A woman who rents the home at 846 County Line Road said she was sitting in the living room at the time the accident occurred and that she was thrown from one end of the room to the other when the bus rammed through the house.

No one in the home was injured. She was identified by news sources as Eugenia Collado, 61.

The driver was also taken to Good Samaritan Medical Center and her condition was not immediately available.

Police closed off the area, blocking off traffic along Ritter Avenue from Route 110 to County Line Road.

The bus is owned by Educational Bus Company in Copiague. A representative was not immediately for comment.
