Though Howie Brodie had the Modified Division Championship locked up some weeks ago, there were still races to be run. Jason Agugliaro of Islip captured his first win of the season on this night. Though Timmy Solomito and others gave him a competitive race, the Islip resident started on the pole and ended up crossing the line first for his lone win of 2013.
In the Blunderbust Division, Bill Wegmann Jr. captured a long-awaited win. However there was much drama before the checkered flag fell. Rob Bader led at the outset of the race until he would lose a wheel as he went into turn four. Then, the field seemed to gang up on Tommy Walkowiak until he himself was sent to the rear of the field for ruff riding. As a result, Scott Malazewski of Deer Park was crowned 2013 Blunderbust Champion.
In the Late Model Division, the emotional favorite may have been the retiring Roger Oxee, Kevin Metzger of Massapequa won the late model feature and the division championship went to Jeremy Macdermott.
In the Charger Division, Eric Zeh won both the feature event and the championship by leading a majority of the race including the all-important final lap.
Finally, in the Figure 8 Division, Mike Mujsce captured the elusive win as his car finally operated the way he wanted. Kenny Hyde Jr. was declared the 2013 figure 8 champion. It was the third and most important win of the year for the Medford resident.
FROM THE PITS: It was good to see former Islip Speedway and Riverhead Raceway Modified pilot Bobby Pearsall in the pits Saturday. He was there from North Carolina to root for his pal Louie Maestri, a Super Pro Truck competitor at Riverhead.
