A five-week suspension is not recommended for everybody, but it worked for modified pilot Tom Rogers, Jr. He put distance between him and the field and kept his composure in a solid win.
In the INEX Legend division, Vinny Delaney scored his second win of the season since becoming engaged to former Riverhead Raceway Modified driver Amber Fortin.
Kenny Hyde Jr. won his second career Figure 8 division win. He won on his girlfriend’s birthday.
Finally, in the Charger Division, Chris Turbush continued consistency with a win.
FROM THE PITS: Frank Dumicich Jr. completed a two-week stint in the #14 Figure 8 for suspended Tom Ferrara. The Muscle Racing Team is having a tough 2013 after capturing the championship in 2012…Marissa Neiderhauer is looking for sponsors on the #74 modified after losing a major sponsor in mid season.
•John Fortin made a near-total victorious return to Riverhead Raceway on Aug. 31. The Holtsville resident spent the majority of 2013 competing at Mountain (PA) Speedway. Upon his return, he drew the paul for the 35-lap modified feature. From there, he and Timmy Solomito raced doorhandle to doorhandle for 30 of the 35 laps. On the 31st circuit, they got together and Solomito was charged by officials with rough riding and sent to the rear. Tom Rogers Jr. took the lead on the ensuing restart and claimed his second win in as many weeks.
In the Super Pro Truck feature, Mark Stewart of the racing turbush family scored still another win. Immediately after the victory, track announcer Bob Finan announced that the number 8 was for sale.
In the INEX Legend Division, there was a little more drama than Kyle Ellwood would like. The number 71X caught fire during the feature. Elwood escaped injury and Mike Van Houghton scored his first win of 2013.
Finally, in the Late Model feature event, Scott Kulesa of Massachusetts scored his first win of 2013.
FROM THE PITS: Late Model driver Roger Oxee announced this week that 2013 will be his final full year of competition. The Carmel, NY resident said he and his crew will break the #39 out of mothballs for selected special events in the future…The Monster Trucks and an Enduro completed the Labor Day weekend program.
