Wake Sunday for William Andrew Gaskins Jr., of Amityville

Services for William Andrew Gaskins Jr., a lifelong resident of Amityville who died Aug. 6, 2013, will be held Sunday at Powell Funeral Home, 67 Broadway, Amityville from 6 to 9 p.m.

Mr. Gaskins, who was known as Sime, graduated from Amityville Memorial High School in 1959 where he played on the football team. He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Okinowa. He was on the U.S. Army boxing team. Following his honorable discharge from the service, he worked for the 7-Up Company.

He was a member of Hicks Memorial United Christian Church, Amityville.

Mr. Gaskins is survived by his mother Hannah Hunter Gaskins of Amityville and by his siblings: Ronald and his wife Anita of Georgia, Catherine Ernestine Exum of Philadelphia, William O. Gazkins of Queens, Janet Gaskins of California. His aunts also survive him as does his former wife Harriet Gaskins Loving and his nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was predeceased by his daughter Shelly in 1981.

A religious service is being held at the Powell Funeral Home Sunday night. Burial will follow in Long Island National Cemetery at Calverton.
