Hot Laps

Super Pro truck vet Lou Maestri Jr. of Deer Park won his first race in 2011 on Aug. 11. Super Pro truck vet Lou Maestri Jr. of Deer Park won his first race in 2011 on Aug. 11. Hurricane Irene did what a bunch of Modified drivers up and down the Eastern Seaboard couldn’t do to Richie Evans for years: stop him.

Actually, the recent storm caused Riverhead Raceway to cancel it’s program, the focus of which would have been honoring the late “Rapid Roman” from Rome, NY on his recent induction into the NASCAR Hall of Fame.

Instead, I had a lengthy phone conversation with former Islip Speedway and Riverhead Raceway Modified driver Bobby Pearsall, now a car owner in North Carolina. The team spent the 2011 campaign at Ace Speedway and Bowman-Gray Stadi- um. Pearsall was especially ecstatic about a recent 18th place start and eighth place finish, in view of the fact that their motor packed considerably less horsepower than the competition.

The former West Babylon resident also was excited about the 2012 season. The team plans on refurbishing the car, including giving the motor a significant horsepower boost.

From Bobby Pearsall’s Garage: Team Pearsall’s season is not over…..They are readying the vehicle for a November 5, 2011 event.
