He is married to a lovely wife, LaPrena and the proud Father of Terrace, Monique, Myriah (stepdaughter), Ayona and Vernon, Jr. He comes from Baltimore, Maryland’s Park Heights community. Pastor Shelton attended Carver Vocational High School, Coppin State University where he earned his bachelor of science degree in criminal justice and his Master’s of Divinity degree at TheSamuel Dewitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University Seminary.

This powerful speaker, teacher and theologian played semi-professional baseball in the state of Maryland but was called to preach at the age of 26, preaching his first sermon on March 1, 2002 at Jerusalem Baptist Church. He joined New Bethlehem Baptist Church and became TheYouth & Young Adult Minister.

In 2006 Pastor Shelton was installed at TheNew Hope Christian Baptist Church, Baltimore and raised the congregation from 15 members to 200, requiring (2) worship services and enlarging his territory in four years to move him to New York.

When taking the very last seat in the house very close to the back door, I could witness and observe the love and excitement of several hundred people from all over the country. Folks from Richmond Virgina to Englewood, New Jersey came by church buses with their members, families and friends. The youth choir, the message, and the love overflowed my cup. I was certainly glad to be in the number.

Dr. Andy C. Lewter, Sr. of the Hollywood Full Gospel Baptist Cathedral, of Amityville was the Worship Leader; Rev. Roy Kirton the President of M.A.N.A. (Ministerial Alliance of North Amityville and Vicinity) and Pastor of the Circle of Love Ministry, gave a welcome. Rev. Dr. Patricia Rickenbacker, of the Living Hope Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, Massapequa, presented the Special Bible; Elder Jacqueline Jones presented the Hymnal; Pastor Marvin Gatling, of Victory Baptist Church, Brooklyn, presented the robe and Rev. Dr. Vernon M. Chandler, Sr., Pastor of Cedar Street Baptist Church in Richmond Va., delivered the message of hope. Rev. Vernon D. Shelton, Sr. and his family extended the welcome of a Prince to our very friendly village. Thank you for coming!
