Patricia Jamilkowski Patricia Jamilkowski Patricia Jamilkowski was one of the few, the proud—a Marine. The longtime Amityville resident served during World War II and was a member of the Sunrise Detachment Marine Corps League. She died July 21, 2010 with her family at her side. She was 87 years old.

“She rose to the rank of Commandant, the first and only woman ever to hold that title,” said her son James of Massapequa Park. “She was very proud of that.”

Born on Dec. 21, 1922, she served in the secretarial pool of the U.S. Marines based in Washington D.C. during World War II. She had lived on Connecticut Avenue in Massapequa for many years, before moving to Ketchum Avenue in Amityville, where she

lived until her passing.

In addition to her son, Mrs. Jamilkowski leaves behind her other children: Steven and his partner Peter of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; Michael and his wife Susan of Silver Springs, Maryland, and John and his wife Julie of Valley Cottage, New York. Her daughter-in-law Margaret of Massapequa Park, ten grandchildren, and her siblings: Lois Bruget, Vernon Ahmann and Robert Ahmann also survive her. She was predeceased by her husband Edward in 1986.
