Dorothy Strick Dorothy Strick Former local resident and mother Dorothy E. Strick died Aug. 8, 2010 in West Palm Beach, Florida where she lived for the last 25 years. She was 86.

“My mom was my best friend,” said her daughter Barbara of Amityville. “She ran a tight ship, but whenever she was asked how she raised so many kids, she said she was just playing house. She loved children.”

She was born April 22,1924 in Staten Island to Benjamin and Elizabeth (Gannon) Brown and grew up in a home on Merrick Road in Amityville. She dedicated her life to her family and lived in homes on South Baldwin Place, Amityville, and Laurel Drive in Massapequa Park. In 1985, she moved to Florida. A longtime parishioner at St. Rose of Lima Church in Massapequa, she loved to play cards and drive her car.

In addition to her daughter Barbara, Mrs. Strick leaves behind her other children: Susan Boothby of Virginia, Patricia Wagner of Florida, Kathy Vanderhoof and her husband Jerry of Florida, Richard and his wife Margaret of Florida, Robert and his wife Maria of Massapequa Park, Kenny and his wife Cathy of Massapequa Park, Timmy and his wife Terrie of Colorado, Amy Bramson and her husband Lee of California, Matthew and Theresa Wei of Brooklyn. In addition, 25 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren also survive her. She was predeceased by her husband of 43 years, Richard F. in 1987.

Father Peter Lui and father Luke Wei conducted prayers at the Powell Funeral Home, Amityville, on Aug. 12, 2010. A Mass of Christian Burial was said at St. Rose of Lima R.C. Church, Massapequa, followed by interment in St. Charles Cemetery, East Farmingdale.
