School is Open: Amityville – All students begin on Sept. 1, and school will be closed Sept. 3 and 6 and Sept. 9 and 10.

Copiague –All students start on Sept. 7. School will be closed Sept. 9 and 10. On Sept.13, school will resume; first full week.

St. Martin of Tours – School begins on Sept. 8,and students will be dismissed at 11:30 a.m.; same schedule on the 9 and 10. Sept. 13, full day begins. Pre K/Nursery School have parent orientations on Sept. 8 and 9.

Bethel A.M.E. is celebrating its 195 Anniversary this fall. On Sun. Sept. 19, the church service will be held outdoors 11.m., in the old Roller skating rink parking lot on Sunrise Highway, across from Target and Home Depot in Copiague. The service without walls will recognize National Alcohol and Drug addiction month. The public is invited. Sept. 25, 2010

•TheSisters of Greater Long Island, is a breast cancer coalition made up and run by African-American survivors. They meet the second Monday of each month at the Phelps Lane pool building, 7 to 9 p.m. Theannual fund raiser will be held this year from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Captain Bill’s Bayview House, 122 Ocean Ave., Bayshore.
