Twins from Amityville take part in NYC Triathlon
Amityville twins Patrick and Ryan Fallot, 21, seem to do everything together. They roomed together at SUNY Brockport, they were both education majors, and now both boys competed in the New York City Triathlon on July 18. Theboys had to complete a 1,500 m. swim in the Hudson River, a 40 km. bike ride along the Henry Hudson Parkway and a 10 km. run in Central Park.
“I feel pretty confident about the race,” Ryan Fallot said last week. “I’ve been working all summer for this and I’m hoping to place very well.”
The twins did place well at the triathlon, with Ryan coming in 600th place with a time of two hours and 36 minutes, and Patrick coming in 1,200th place with a time of two hours and 49 minutes. There were approximately 4,000 participants.
Although this is their first New York City Triathlon, Ryan and Patrick are no strangers to this type of competitive race. Both boys competed in the Quassy race at the end of May this year. The race is a Half-Ironman, and the twins placed about mid-pack, or a little bit above average during the competition.
However, this triathlon posed a bigger challenge to the boys.
“It was a very long course; we both did very well,” said Ryan. “Everyone was very happy and friendly.”
Patrick added that the most challenging part of the race was “the bike course because it was packed with thousands of athletes.”
Both twins plan on competing in the triathlon next year.
Ryan and Patrick both agreed that they enjoy helping each other out before their races, but are not afraid of a little friendly competition. “We like training together, but come the day of the race we are enemies,” said Ryan with a laugh. Patrick added that he and his brother are “super close…we both try to do our best.”
In preparation for their races, Ryan and Patrick run and bike ride almost every day on Ocean Parkway. In addition, they compete in a running race every Monday night.
Both boys are lifeguards during the summer and enjoy water sports like wakeboarding. They were also on the wrestling team in college at SUNY Brockwood where Patrick graduated with an Earth Science education degree, and Ryan graduated with a Math education degree.
“I’m very proud of them,” said their father George Fallot “My wife and I usually go and watch their races, and we were there on Sunday.”
In the fall, Ryan and Patrick will attend Dowling College—together—where both will be pursuing master’s degree.
