Amityville’s new Village Hall has been recognized as one of the leading environmental-friendly buildings on Long Island. The building was awarded a Gold LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Certification, making it one of the only three gold buildings on Long Island to receive this recognition.
At a recent Village Board meeting, Victor Canseco of Sandpebble Builders Inc., which was the project management firm on the building, presented Mayor Peter Imbert and the Board of Trustees the award.
The new Village Hall replaces the older municipal hall and the police station that stood across the street on Greene Avenue.
“It was never really built to function as a municipal office, so we finally got the chance to design something that was appropriate,” said Imbert. “Now we’re all together in a building that will last for the next 100 years at least.”
