Amityville and Massapequa firefighters worked to put out a car fire that occurred shortly after 6 p.m., May 30. The vehicle was in the eastbound lane of Sunrise Highway at County Line Road. Due to the location, both departments were notified, as well as the Nassau County Police Department.

Amityville Village Chief Russell Sawyer arrived at the scene and reported that the car was fully involved. The first engine at the scene extended a line and extinguished the blaze.

Massapequa’s Chief Pete Anglim and firefighters with engine 6314 and ladder 632 assisted the Amityville Fire Department.

Nassau County Police said the vehicle had been stolen. Traffic in the east and westbound lanes of Sunrise Highway was tied up for approximately 15 minutes. Chief Sawyer reported the fire was under control quickly, and no injuries were reported.
