Philip Murtha, veteran and firefighter, dies
Murtha was model for Firefighters Memorial Statue in front of Babylon Town Hall
As a serviceman for his country, a volunteer for his community and a family man, World War II veteran and former New York City firefighter Philip Murtha was a role model, both literally and figuratively. He posed for the Firefighters Memorial statue that now sits in front of Babylon Town Hall in Lindenhurst, and left a legacy of commitment in the service of others. AFD Vamps attack car fire on Sunrise Hwy.

Amityville and Massapequa firefighters worked to put out a car fire that occurred shortly after 6 p.m., May 30. The vehicle was in the eastbound lane of Sunrise Highway at County Line Road. Due to the location, both departments were notified, as well as the Nassau County Police Department. More...
