Former Amityville resident Isabelle Lyle deWolfe Gestal Rice died March 14, 2010 in her home at Heritage Village in Southbury, Connecticut. She was 94.

She was born Feb. 1, 1916 to Charles and Alice (Crean) deWolfe in Ambler, Pennsylvania. After marrying Dr. Joseph S. Gestal on Feb. 12, 1942 they had seven children and grew a vibrant medical practice from their Ocean Avenue home in Amityville.

Mrs. Rice was an avid tennis and bridge player and prolific painter. She loved to spend time with her ever expanding family and was an active church member. According to her family she was fun loving and had an independent spirit.

She leaves behind her children, Pamela Mills of Franklin Lakes, New Jersey; Kenneth and Robin Gestal of New Canaan, Connecticut; Dean and Janie Gestal of San Francisco, California; Laurie Clare of Delray, Florida; Lee Gestal of Albany, Vermont; Amy and Tom Nehring of Massapequa Park and Bruce Weber of Largo, Florida. Her 30 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren also survive her. She was predeceased by her first husband, Dr. Joseph Gestal in 1976, her second husband, Robert Rice in 2000 and her daughter Marybeth Weber in 2008.

She reposed at the Sacred Heart Church, Southbury, Connecticut on March 16, 2010. A Mass of Christian Burial was held March 17, 2010 at the church. Arrangements were made by Carpino Funeral Home, Southbury, Connecticut.
