Artie Peterson, Marine and Amityville resident

Longtime Amityville resident Arthur “Artie” W. Peterson died March 14, 2010 at his Carman Place home after a long illness. He was 82.

He was born on Sept. 6, 1927 in New York City to Philip and Lucille (Bremer) Peterson. Mr. Peterson grew up in Astoria. After graduating from Bryant High School, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps, and was a member of the Marine Corps League.

Mr. Peterson retired as a draftsman for Fairchild- Republic in Farmingdale and was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Amityville.

He leaves behind his wife of more than 40 years, Martha L.; his children: Linda Groenewald, Carol Sandick and her husband Steve, Edward and Wesley and his wife Tracy; his grandchildren: Philip Groenewald, Austin Sandick, Jesse and Lucas; his great granddaughter: Adalae Groenewald; and his sisters: Gloria Blanchard and Elsie Chiapperino. He was predeceased by his brothers, Norman and Philip.

Mr. Peterson reposed at the Powell Funeral Home, Amityville on March 16, 2010. The Rev. Dr. Louise Stowe-Johns, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiated at a Funeral Service in the church, with Military Honors on March 17, 2010. A private cremation followed. Interment of cremated remains will follow at a later date in Amityville Cemetery.
