Joseph James of Amityville, who was arrested last night after he allegedly shot his wife during a dispute.Suffolk County Police have arrested a North Amityville man for shooting his wife in the abdomen Tuesday night. Police gave this account:

Joseph James, 55, shot his wife once in the abdomen at approximately 11:45 p.m. during a dispute Tuesday night. The shooting occurred inside the couple’s North Amityville home, at 21 Columbus Boulevard. When police arrived they found the weapon, a 12-gauge shotgun, lying on the floor near the victim.

Police arrested James at the home and charged him with Assault 2nd Degree. His wife, Joanna James, 38, was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip where she was treated for her injuries. She was listed in stable condition.

James was held overnight and will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on April 28.
