Event to commemorate first professional black baseball team, formed on LI, to be held April 18

The late 19th Century was a time when leisure was an important part of life and many areas of Long Island were getaways for rich and well-to-do Manhattanites and Brooklynites. Think women with parasols, lifting their long skirts just above their ankles to dip their toes into the foamy waves or cool lakes while their children race around them.
