Amityville youngsters discuss how to become responsible young adults at Project Morry meeting

On Jan. 11, more than 20 Project Morry participants, ages nine to 13, gathered at the United North Amityville Youth Organization, Amityville to discuss how personal responsibility is the key to success. At their Project Morry meetings, youngsters learned how to balance personal responsibilities with external responsibilities including part-time jobs, chores, and duties at home. Project Morry staff demonstrated through interactive games how taking responsibility can improve their quality of life at home, school and in their communities.

Children are selected to participate in Project Morry by a teacher, guidance counselor, social worker or after-school program staff member, and receive a full scholarship. In addition to nine school year meetings and activities in Amityville, each child makes a commitment to attend Morry’s Camp, the residential summer camp, for four weeks, over four consecutive years. The year-round curriculum guides children through a critical period in their educational and social development, while providing long-term support.
