Lifelong Amityville resident Connor Gill McCarthy died Jan. 31, 2010 at his home. He was 19.
He was born March 7, 1990 to Eileen M. Kretz McCarthy of Amityville and Christopher S. McCarthy of Charleston, South Carolina. Disabled and wheelchair bound, he enjoyed teasing his sisters and brother, going for walks and to the mall with his caregivers, said his mother. He also loved school.
“Connor truly was a gift I am so grateful I was given,” said his mother who added that her son always had a smile on his face. “We miss him greatly.”
In addition to his parents, he also leaves behind his siblings: Mollie E., Maggie M., Emily M. and Christopher S., Jr. and his fiancée Kaitlyn Ringer. His grandmother Joan Kretz and his niece Sadie B. McCarthy also survive him, as do his caregivers, Joan Sacino, Dorcas McFarlane, Enid Punter and Gislaine Cadet; his bus driver Carmine and his matron Barbara as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.
A prayer service was held at the Powell Funeral Home, Amityville, on Feb. 2, 2010. Father Richard T. Stelter, pastor, St. Martin of Tours R.C. Church, Amityville, officiated at a Mass of Christian Burial Feb. 3, 2010 assisted by the Consolation Ministry, friends and members of the family. A private cremation followed.
