Dorothy L. Basile
Dorothy L. Basile died Feb. 2, 2010 at Missionary Sisters of St. Benedict in Huntington. She is the mother of Larry Basile, and a member of the Amityville Chamber of Commerce and the Amityville Historical Society.
She was born March 27, 1921 in Brooklyn to Joseph and Helen (Palmer) Greene and lived in Greenlawn. For many years, Mrs. Basile worked as a food service manager at Harborfields School District in Greenlawn. “My mother loved Amityville and the South Shore and she loved the historical society,” said her son Larry.
Mrs. Basile leaves behind her children, Carol Winges and her husband Warren of Greenlawn, Lynda Zeiger and her husband Gerard of Florida, and Ronald Henslik of Georgia. Nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and her sister and brother-in-law, Jan and Kevin Curry also survive her. She was predeceased by her husband John who died in 1994.
Mrs. Basile reposed at the Nolan & Taylor Funeral Home, Northport, on Feb. 4, 2010. A Funeral Mass was said at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church in Centerport on Feb. 5, 2010 followed by interment at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Huntington.
