NOTICE OF SPECIAL DISTRICT MEETING ON March 16, 2010 AMITYVILLE UNION FREE SCHOOL DISTRICT, TOWNS OF BABYLON, SUFFOLK COUNTY AND OYSTER BAY, NASSAU COUNTY, STATE OF NEW YORK NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that pursuant to a resolution of the Board of Education of the Amityville Union Free School District, Town of Babylon, County of Suffolk, and Town of Oyster Bay, County of Nassau, State of New York adopted on January 13, 2010, a Special District Meeting of the qualified voters of said School District will be held on the 16th day of March, 2010 between the hours of 7:00 am and 9:00 pm, prevailing time, in the two election districts, namely Nor theast Elementar y School, 420 Albany Avenue, Amityville, New York, and Amityville Memorial High School, 250 Merrick Road, Amityville, New York, for the purpose of voting upon the following proposition: PROPOSITION No. 1: Proposition to Approve Capital Expenditures WHEREAS on June 4, 2009 the Board of Education of the Amityville Union Free School District received $2,500,000 in settlement of litigation related to capital construction and renovations to the Park Avenue Elementary School; and, WHEREAS these funds have been deposited and are accounted for within the School District’s Capital Fund, and can be appropriated for capital construction and/or renovations: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Education of the Amityville Union Free School District is hereby authorized to expend the sum of $2,500,000 from the Capital Fund to complete the following capital reconstruction and renovation projects, related site work, incidental work and acquisition of related equipment in connection with: Replacement • of the roof on the Northeast Elementary School. • Replacement of the roof on the Northwest Elementary School. • Districtwide renovation projects to enhance safety and improve overall building function by replacing internal communications equipment and systems, including, but not limited to bui lding int e rcom systems, telephone and data systems. • Districtwide site work, including but not limited to sidewalk repair, parking lot repair, etc. Thevoting will be conducted by ballot on voting machines as provided in the Education Law and the polls will remain open from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., prevailing time, and as much longer as may be necessary to enable the voters then present to cast their ballots. NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that persona l registration of voters is required in order to vote at school meetings or elections, in accordance with §2014 of the Education Law or pursuant to Article 5 of the Election Law, not less than five (5) days preceding the Special District Meeting at the District Office, 150 Park Avenue, Amityville, New York, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., prevailing time, on Wednesday, March 11, and a register of voters for the forthcoming Special District Meeting will be prepared. Any person shall be entitled to have his or her name placed on the register of voters provided that he or she is known or proven to the satisfaction of the Board of Registration to be entitled to vote at said Special District meeting. Any person who shall have voted at any school district election held or conducted at any time within the last four (4) calendar years, or who is registered with the Board of Elections of Suffolk County will not be required to register personally for this Special District Meeting. The names of qualified voters who have previously registered with the Board of Registration and have voted at any annual or special meeting or election in the District within the last four (4) calendar years, remain on the register of voters for the forthcoming special district meeting. The register prepared will be filed in the Office of the Clerk of the District; that such register will be open for inspection by any qualified voter of the District on each of the five days prior to and the day set for the election, except Sunday. Hours of inspection are: Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., prevailing time. NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that applications for absentee ballots will be available at the Office of District Clerk, located at 150 Park Avenue, Amityville, New York, for eligible residents after February 22, 2010 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., prevailing time, Monday through Friday, except holidays. In accordance with Education Law §2018-a such application must be received by the District Clerk at least seven days before the Special District Meeting if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter, or the day before the Special District Meeting, if the ballot is to be personally delivered to the voter. Absentee ballots must be received by the District Clerk not later than 5:00 p.m., prevailing time, on 16th day of March, 2010. NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that a list of persons to whom absentee ballots are issued will be available for inspection to qualified voters of the District in the Office of the District Clerk on each of the five (5) days prior to the day of the Special District Meeting between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., except Saturdays, Sundays and holidays and shall be available at the polling places on the day of the vote.
