Turnovers keep police, rescue busy

Amityville Village Police and Fire Rescue rushed to assist a woman whose vehicle struck a tree, hit the curb and rolled over on an icy road. Thatincident occurred Feb. 12, shortly after 8 a.m. Police said Regina Barrett of Wilson Ave., Amity Harbor, was driving a Jeep SUV, and had her young daughter in a car seat in the back of the vehicle at the time of the incident. Rescue workers were able to get Barrett and the child out of the car quickly. Barrett was taken to a local hospital via Amityville rescue.

In another accident that occurred a week later, two cars collided at Bayview Avenue and Merrick Rd., Amityville. Police said that Betty Rhodes of 132 E. 35 St., Manhattan, was operating her vehicle west on Merrick Road and ran a red light, colliding with a vehicle driven by Waseem Rehman of 205 Grove St., Staten Island. Rehman was operating his vehicle south on Bayview Avenue and according to witnesses had a green light as he attempted to make a left turn on to Merrick Road to go east. Rehman and an passenger in his vehicle sustained minor injuries.
