Longtime Amityville resident and active community member Rosemary Wood died Jan. 26, 2010 at her home. She was 92 and had lived in her South Bayview Avenue home for 90 years. She was born Jan. 15, 1918 in Brooklyn to Alexander C. and Grace E. (Weldon) Webber and moved to Amityville when she was two years old. In addition to caring for her family and home, Mrs. Wood worked as a broker for Frederick D. Webber in Lindenhurst. She was an active parishioner in St. Martin of Tours R.C. Church, and a member of the Unqua Corinthian Yacht Club. She was also a member of the Amityville LeBourget Alliance, and for many years welcomed families from LeBourget, France into her home. “She was a very gracious woman,” said Henry Marcley, a member of the LeBourget organization. “For many years, the LeBourget used her back yard for barbecues.” Mrs. Wood leaves behind her son David of West Islip and her siblings, Margaret M. Howard and her husband Lou of Amityville, and Harold “Pat” W. of Antrim, New Hampshire. Three grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews also survive her. She was predeceased by her husband David in June, 1950. Rev. Father Richard T. Stelter, pastor, St. Martin of Tours, officiated at services at the Powell Funeral Home, Amityville, on Jan. 29, 2010. Father Stelter also officiated at the Mass of Christian Burial and was assisted by the Consolation Ministry and members of the family at St. Martin of Tours R.C. Church, Amityville. Interment followed at in Woodlawn Cemetery in The Bronx. Donations in Mrs. Wood’s memory can be sent to St. Martin’s School, 41 Union Ave., Amityville, New York 11701.
