Amityville resident Johanna Csercsevits died Jan. 18, 2010 at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip. She was 89. She was born May 23, 1920 in Yugoslavia to Anthony and Magdalena (Koenig) Csercsevits. She lived on County Line Road in Amityville for many years and worked as a secretary for Fairchild Aviation Corporation in Farmingdale. “In my youth, Aunt Jo introduced me to the music of Montovani, Liberace and the works of George Gershwin,” said her godson Robert Breeden of Leonardo, New Jersey. “Thischanged my life and I pursued a path in music in high school.” In addition, Miss Csercsevits enjoyed gardening and loved raising irises. Miss Csercsevits leaves behind her cousins Paul and Peter Arendt, and her dear friends, Christine and David Carswell. She was predeceased by her sisters, Elizabeth and Theresa.
A Prayer Service was conducted at the Powell Funeral Home, Amityville, on Jan. 22, 2010. Father Richard T. Stelter officiated at a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Martin of Tours R.C. Church, Amityville, followed by a private cremation.
