Copiague students are honored by Fire Department
For years, the partnership between the Copiague School District and the Copiague Fire Department has been instrumental in helping to educate the community’s children about firesafety and prevention. Every year as part of this partnership, Copiague’s elementary school students participate in an essay and poster contest that allows them to showcase their creative skills and the important firesafety lessons they have learned. At a special ceremony held at the Copiague Fire Department, students from the District were honored for their artistic contributions to this year’s contest, which was based upon the theme of Stay Fire Smart! Don’t Get Burned!
Attended by Copiague Fire Department personnel, members of Copiague School District’s Board of Education, Superintendent of Schools Charles Leunig, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction Dr. Kathleen Bannon, Deauville Gardens Principal Robert Donnellan, Susan E. Wiley Principal Michael Kelly, and other District personnel. The ceremony honored the top student contributions from each elementary school. Five overall winners were then selected from each grade level from across the district for originality and creativity. This year’s grade-level winners are first-grader Kevin Blanco from Deauville Gardens, second-grader Amelie Roca from Susan E. Wiley, third-grader Gabriela Ordonez from Great Neck Road, fourth-grader Ashley Collado from Great Neck Road, and fifth-grader Samantha Legge from Deauville Gardens.
