Republican lawmakers rally in Albany against the state's new MTA tax
Long Island's Republican Senators, business owners and nonprofit organization leaders, called for the repeal of the MTA Payroll Tax at a rally and press conference in Albany last week. The new tax, passed by the Democratically controlled Legislature and signed by Governor David Paterson in May, is part of a $1.5 billion MTA bailout plan, and is retroactive to March 1, 2009.
