Despite her age, Martha Mary Carroll was determined to live a full life. She gardened and mowed her lawn and was an artist. She died Oct. 16, 2009 in New Island Hospital in Bethpage. She was 93.
She was born Feb. 28, 1916 in Cutchogue to Michael and Mary (Kockiusko) Doroski and dedicated her life to caring for her family and home. For more than 65 years she lived on South Bayview Avenue in Amityville.
According to her son-in-law, Donald Marsden of Hempstead, she was always very active, which kept her young at heart.
“Up until she was 90, she still mowed her own lawn,” he said, adding that as well as being an avid gardener, she was also an accomplished oil painter and furniture restorer.
For decades she volunteered with the St. Vincent De Paul Society and was a member of St. Martin of Tours R.C. Church in Amityville.
In addition to her son-in-law, Mrs. Carroll leaves behind her son: John of Amityville. She was predeceased by her husband: Laurence S. and her daughter: Mary C. Marsden.
Father Richard T. Stelter, pastor of St. Martin of Tours, officiated at a Mass of Christian Burial assisted by the Consolation Ministry followed by interment in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Cutchogue. Arrangements were under the direction of Powell Funeral Home in Amityville.
