Longtime Amityville resident Louis J. Chebuske died Oct. 10, 2009 at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip. He was 77.

He was born March 16, 1932 in Roslyn to Julius L. and Catherine (nee Jankowski). He was employed by Triplex Supply Company in Bay Shore until his retirement.

According to his family, Mr. Chebuske was always glad to lend a helping hand to neighbors with home repairs or redecorating. An avid gardener, he also shared his produce with one and all.

He was a member of the Amityville Masonic Lodge, Past Patron of the Amityville Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Amityville.

Mr. Chebuske leaves behind his wife of 52 years, Virginia “Ginny;” his daughters: Beverly A. Powell and her husband Andy, Patricia C. Railton and her husband John and Jennifer Hufnagel and her husband Richard; and his grandson: Wesley S. Powell.

A service by the Order of the Eastern Star was held at the Powell Funeral Home, Amityville on Oct. 13, 2009 followed by a Masonic Service by Amityville Lodge #977. The Rev. David W. Anglin, pastor of St. Paul’s, officiated at the funeral service in the funeral home on Oct. 14, 2009 followed by interment in Amityville Cemetery.
