Pet blessing at Temple Sinai

2009-11-04 / Events & Calendar

Temple Sinai of Massapequa and Amityville will once again observe its “Blessing Of Our Pets,” Sun., Nov. 8, 1 p.m. at the Temple, 270 Clocks Blvd., Massapequa, south of Merrick Road.

Judaism requires that no physical or emotional harm is done to “our animals” and that we are required to respect and care for them. The ritual, in addition to blessing pets, extends to caring for others. In that spirit, the Temple will collect items for Little Shelter Animal Rescue and Adoption Center in Huntington, the oldest no-kill shelter in Suffolk County. Needed items are dog or cat beds, canned dog food, dry cat food and/or catnip toys. If you would like to donate, bring these items to the Temple Friday afternoons or Sunday mornings until Nov. 8.

All are welcome to join in the blessing with their pets. Bring your own treats, water bowl, pooper scooper, etc. For information, call 516-795-5015 or see the Temple’s website at www.templesinaimassapequa.org.
