Veronica Henry, a resident of Amityville, will be honored at the School-Business Partnerships of Long Island, Inc. (SBPLI) Second Annual Sixty over Sixty Awards Gala on Tuesday, November 10th at TheCrest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury. “Dr. Henry has shown us that through her involvement with the Long Island community she is a passionate, diligent and dedicated individual,” said Fred Bre­ithut, founder and president of SBPLI, Inc. “We are honoring her to acknowledge these contributions that the Long Island community has truly benefitedfrom.”

was the dean/executive director of the Long Island Educational Opportunity Cen­ter and a professor in the nursing depart­ment at Farmingdale State University of New York. Dr. Henry was director of Proj­ect

CARE, a program that provided after-school tutoring for students, as well as a summer institute in mathematics, science, college-survival skills, and technology at Farmingdale State University. Additionally, Dr. Henry is devoted to many community groups and causes. She is a member of the American Cancer Society Network, the American Heart Association, and “Take Wellness Heart.” She spearheads confer­ences on heart disease and the early detec­tion of cancer in minority communities.

Presented by SBPLI, Inc., the 60 hon­orees were selected based on the positive, tangible contributions that they have made to Long Island in all fields and industries including, but not limited to, business, education, health care, arts, entertain­ment, public service and technology. The over Sixty Awards Gala will raise funds for SBPLI-LI FIRST’s Robotics Competition program. ThisLong Island Regional Competition, part of a national program challenges teams of students and mentors while teaching them teamwork, confidence, leadership, and many other work skills.
