Amateur Radio Operators hold annual field day

2009-07-29 / Events & Calendar

The Amateur Radio Operators throughout the world held their annual field day exercises late June. Taking part in the event were members of the Great South Bay Amateur Radio Club (GSBARC), which met at Babylon Town Hall Park. Set up of equipment began at 6 a.m. with operators opening contact at 2 p.m. The goal is for the operators to see how many contacts, worldwide, they can make in a 24-hour span using electricity from generators and batteries only.

In top photo, John Melfi, W2HCB, President of GSBARC, demonstrates a hand-held radio transmitter to Babylon Town CouncilmanAntonio Martinez who visited the Ham event.

In photo, Walter Paluch, KA2CAQ; Jack Eichner, N2PIK; Kevin Morgan, AB2ZI and John Smale, K2IZ, are shown at the event busy calling for contacts and logging them in as they are made. All are Lindenhurst residents.
