Wesley Junker: longtime Copiague resident

Longtime Copiague resident and loving family man, Wesley Frederick Junker died May 29, 2009 at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip. He was 93.

He was born in Flatbush, Brooklyn on March 6, 1916 to Jacob and Magdelena (Marstaller) and moved to Copiague with his family when he was in the second grade. He lived in Copiague for 86 years, first on S. Great Neck Road then on Baylawn Avenue.

Mr. Junker served in the U.S. Army during World War II in North Africa. He spent his career as an industrial designer for Donald Deskey Associates in Manhattan, retiring twice at ages 65 and 72.

"My dad was the best father anyone could ever have," said his daughter, Jill K. Wood. "He was such a wonderful, caring and sensitive individual."

In addition to his daughter, Jill, Mr. Junker leaves behind his son, Kurt K. Junker and wife Evalina. His grandchildren, Jay W. Junker and Jason K. Wood also survive him. He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Mildred K., in Sept. 2004.

Mr. Junker reposed at the Powell Funeral Home in Amityville on June 3, 2009 where a prayer service was held. Entombment followed in National Cemetery at Pinelawn, with military honors.
