Amityville Kiwanis celebrates 60th anniversary
On Sunday June 14th, TheAmityville Kiwanis Club celebrated the 60th anniversary of their charter. The celebration was held at the Unqua Corinthian Yacht Club in Amityville with a delicious brunch. Over 100 guests were in attendance, with representation by many of the local community and business organizations and local dignitaries.
Kiwanis member Dave Hager hosted the event, and the keynote speaker was Past President and long time club member John A. Shad Jr. His touching and at times funny speech, shared stories of the club and the many ways it has touched the community of Amityville over the years. He spoke of how 26 local businessmen, including charter member Peter Pappas, who is still a member and in attendance, came together 60 years ago to start a community service club that has made an indelible mark on the community and continues to today.
Proclamations were presented to the club from the New York State Assembly, Town of Babylon and the Village of Amityville. President Corinne Amico, graciously thanked everyone for sharing this special event with the club and expressed her deep gratitude for the opportunity to lead the club this year, in this its 60th year.
Amityville Kiwanis' next event is a Pitch N' Putt Golf Tournament on June 26th at the Cedar Beach Golf Course. All proceeds go to the Pediatric Trauma Center at Good Samaritan Hospital.
