      Former Amityville resident Anthony S. Agostino died April 13, 2009 at Nassau University Medical Center in Mineola after a long-term illness. He was 54. He was born Aug. 3, 1954 in Brooklyn to James V. and Vivian (Mammolite) Agostino and grew up on Matthew Drive in Amityville. For the last ten years he had been hospitalized in Uniondale.

      Longtime Amityville resident and retired Grumman employee Bernard G. McCartan died April 19, 2009 at his home. He was 68. He was born in Dumbarton, Scotland on June 3, 1940 to Joseph and Mary (McManamin)McCartan and had emigrated to the U.S. He served during the Vietnam War in the U.S. Marines from 1964 to 1967 and earned several medals and decorations.
