Amityville resident and retired educator Janet E. Brauns died March 11, 2009 at Mercy Hospital in Rockville Centre. She was 78. "My mom was simply a generous and loving person," said her daughter, Debra Hamcke who lived with her in Amityville. She was born Feb. 14, 1931 in Woodhaven, Queens to William and Edith (Olbert) Kermer.
