St. Martin's students learn respectful responses

St. Martin of Tours School in Amityville had a guest speaker come in to talk with the students. Colleen Merlo is the director of Suffolk County Mental Health; she spoke with the students about respect and how it begins with self. She spoke about the six pillars of good character formation which are trust- worthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring for others and citizenship. Merlo discussed respect towards parents, teachers and peers. She did role playing with the students in grades five through eight. She put the students in different situations so they could learn respectful responses.
