Locals celebrate inauguration of President Obama

2009-01-28 / People/Social

On Tues., Jan. 20, President Barack Obama took the oath of office in an historical inauguration ceremony that was celebrated throughout Amityville, the town, the country and the world. Top photo shows Amityville Memorial High School students in the school library watching the inauguration. High School Principal Scott Andrews and staff set up the library, the cafeteria and the auditorium to provide students with the chance to see the event as it was happening.

In the next photo a student wears a tee shirt reflecting the theme of hope the new President campaigned on. To the right of that, Babylon Town Hall staff and the public were able to watch the event on a big screen at Town Hall.

Third row down, seniors at the ACE Senior Citizen Center on Cedar Road, North Amityville gathered to celebrate the event, while youngsters at the center's Head Start Program were able to watch it on television with the help of Arthur Payton.
