Babylon Town Supervisor Steve Bellone announced today that the Town Assessor's office will extend its hours of operation beginning Monday, February 2, 2009. Office hours will be from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The last day of extended hours will be Monday, March 2, 2009, which is the deadline for all applications. More ... Sen. Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) is reminding all Town of Babylon residents that they can save on their school taxes through New York State's STAR program. Each school year third grade teacher Patricia Savish, at St. Martin of Tours School in Amityville, has her students put together a 1,000 piece jigsaw puzzle. This year they put together a puzzle with all the presidents. This is their first step in learning about government. North Amityville Community Economic Council (N.A.C.E.C.) is partnering with Farmingdale University and offering new curriculums. There is a new GED program, days and evenings and includes an entry placement examination, on-site completion testing and GED graduation ceremony; new ESL class; new computer concept for beginners and advanced and medical technology. More ... A statewide competitive Civil Service exam for the position of correction officer trainee will be held on April 4. There are no minimum requirements for taking this written examination. The Amityville Little League is offering free umpire training Classes. All children age 13 and up are eligible to be trained and hired as a league umpire.
