Leonard Bochicchio Leonard Bochicchio Throughout his life, Leonard C. Bochicchio set priorities, putting God, family and community at the forefront. He worked hard to raise his eight children with his wife Dorothy, and left a legacy of love and commitment that was expressed by his actions more than his words, said his daughter Mary Ann.

Leonard C. Bochicchio died Dec. 23, 2008. He was 84.

Born in Hell's Kitchen in New York City, he lived in Woodside, Queens before moving to Oak Street in Amityville in 1957. He lived there for more than 50 years.

According to his family, Mr. Bochicchio played roller hockey on a semiprofessional team called the New York Top Hats during his 20s, and spent his career driving trucks locally for Charmer Industries. He also served as a union shop steward for Teamsters Local 815.

An active community member, he spent many years volunteering with the Amityville Little League and was at one time its vice president. He was also very active with the St. Martin of Tours R.C. Church in Amityville where he served as an usher, chairman of the Bishop's Appeal, and as a member of the Knights of Columbus and Holy Name Society.

When his children were growing up, the Bochicchio household was open to all of their friends. "He had an open door policy; he liked to know where his kids were and he enjoyed meeting and talking to all of our friends," said Mary Ann. "His life was his children and his grandchildren," she added. "He was a good man who raised us all on his one salary so that my mother could stay home and care for us. We never had a lot of money but what he gave us was more valuable. He was a role model who showed us by example what was important in life."

An avid walker, he was known throughout the community. He also enjoyed playing cards
