      The New York State proposal, supported by Gov. David Paterson and passed by the Senate, to enact a tax cap on school spending may not be the total answer to escalating real estate property costs, particularly here on Long Island, but it is a beginning.

We need energy independence­— now!
      Dear Editor: Congress will go back to work on Sept. 8 and it is time they got off their behinds and give us an Energy Independence Act. We need more American oil at affordable prices. After all, why should we go broke supporting Vladamer Putin and the rest of the bad guys in the Near East.
