Gary D. Reavis, beloved father and grandfather
Gary D. Reavis had a passion for Motown music and a passion for life. The 54-year-old lifetime Copiague resident died June 16, 2008 after fighting lung cancer. He was the son of Esther Banks, the father of two daughters, Luciana and Antonette, and grandfather of Lareah and Ulysus. Mr. Reavis is also survived by his siblings Patricia, Philip and Laraine, his brother-in-law Ralph, and sister-in-law Elizabeth.

His mother described him as "someone who loved to talk to people and make them laugh, and of course he loved music," said Mrs. Banks. "Even as a child, he always had earphones in his ears, was always listening to the music." His sister Laraine explained that throughout his life Mr. Reavis wanted to help people, even when he used to tease his siblings growing up. "He used to tell me all the time: RYE, respect your elders," she recalls. Mr. Reavis attended Copiague schools and landed first job at Brunswick Hospital. Although music and family were his first loves, he also enjoyed to travel and take photographs.

He saw most of the country as a driver for the Mayflower Moving and Storage Company, however and between 1978-1985 he traveled to Florida, California, Las Vegas and Texas. His sister recalls that his favorite places were Florida, " because it was warm," and Las Vegas- "even though he lost a lot of money there," she said.

Mr. Reavis reposed at the Powell Funeral Home, Broadway, Amityville. A Christian mass was officiated by Rev. Dr. Robert Abbot of Holy Trinity Church, Amityville. Interment followed in Amityville Cemetery.
