Joyce Duryea, Amityville resident
She was born January 19, 1944 in Kew Gardens and was raised in Farmingdale. She lived on County Line Road in Amityville for 42 years. She worked as a teller at Amityville's Chase Bank on Greene Avenue for about 20 years and was recognized and loved by many people who were her customers according to her husband of 42 years, George. "She was a kind, loving person with a great personality who just enjoyed life," said Barbara Balsam who worked with her for 14 years. "Almost every person that comes in mentions her. It's a great loss to the community that she's gone." Mrs. Duryea enjoyed taking art classes in Lindenhurst and even had her paintings of landscapes and flowers displayed at the Lindenhurst Library. In addition to her husband, she also leaves her children: Denise Ubert and her husband Richard and Jeffrey and his wife Andrea; her grandchildren: Jacqueline, Christopher, Daniel, Brittany and Heather; her sister, Anita Swanson; her niece and nephew: Adam Swanson and his wife Kerry and Rebecca C.
