Joshua Sims of Copiague, at 28 Copiague schools' graduate and loving son and father Joshua Lee Edward Sims died after being shot April 18, 2008 as a passenger in a car in Amityville. He was 28. The gunman has not been apprehended. He was born January 23, 1980 to Eddie Lee and Shirley A. (Cisco) and was a 1998 graduate from Walter G. O'Connell High School where he was a gifted basketball and football player. At the time of his death, he was employed by Romar Refuse Removal Corp. in Copiague. "He was an easy going, respectful and kind spirited young man," said his mother, Shirley. "He loved his two little girls and his girlfriend but most of all he was his Momma's baby." In addition to his mother, he leaves behind his longtime girlfriend: Jennifer Williams; his daughters: Jania and Madison; his father: Eddie; his paternal grandmother: Oreida Sims; his siblings: Eddie Jr., Rashad, Rakel, Stephanie and Courtney; his God brother: Russell; his nieces and nephews: Nikki, Emani, Malika, Nevayhia, Tyreese, Kymel, Tephonte and Jahmez; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Mr. Sims reposed at the Powell Funeral Home in Amityville on April 22, 2008. The Reverend William Price, pastor, Zion Gospel Baptist Church officiated at the funeral service followed by interment in Amityville Cemetery.
