Peacesmiths Coffeehouse: Poetry and a very different kind of choir

On Fri., May 2, 8 p.m., the PeaceSmiths Topical, A-Typical, Folk Music, Poetry and Whatever Coffeehouse will feature Amityville poet, editor and sculptor Lois Walker and the choir Harmonic Insurgence. The Coffeehouse is held at First United Methodist Church, 25 Broadway/Route 110 (southmost end near Merrick Rd./Montauk Highway) in Amityville.

Walker's work extends into the visual arts of painting and sculpting, and into the written word as a poet and editor. Walker, a native of Kansas, has lived in Amityville for many years. She is a past chairperson of the Long Island Poetry Collective. From the early eighties into the nineties she hosted Sound of Poetry, a radio show broadcast from Adelphi University in Garden City. Walker's poetry is collected in her book Pandora's Box. Her artwork can be viewed at www.loisvwalker.com.

A donation of $7 (half for kids) is suggested to help promote the Coffeehouse series and towards PeaceSmiths' ongoing work for peace and justice.

Additional information and directions can be found at the group's web-site, www.peacesmiths. org, and their activist hotline (631) 798-0778.
