Amityville staff development addresses physical education
The workshop went on to bring to the forefront many important statistics affecting African Americans, and how these statistics can be addressed in school through a set of three learning standards: 1) Personal Health and Fitness 2) Safe and Healthy Environment 3) Resource Management. Dr. Williams referenced the Daily Physical Activity (DPA) initiatives currently being implemented in Canadian schools, which require students in grades one to nine to participate in 30 minutes of daily physical activ- ity, and the positive results that Canadian school districts are seeing. "Your work contributes to the health of these students," stated Dr. Williams as he addressed the physical education and health department staff. "It is incumbent upon us to provide a good physical education and health program to help our students live long healthy lives."
