Amityville School News •Melanie Rudnick, a student in the Amityville School District has been selected to attend the University Presidential Inaugural Conference in Washington, D.C. next year, celebrating the inauguration of the President and Vice President of the United States. Melanie will take part in and serve as a personal witness to one of the most historic and precedent setting inaugural ceremonies in the history of our nation, Donna J. Snyder, managing director of education for the conference said in a letter to Melanie's parents. Melanie will have the opportunity to meet and interact with prominent VIPs, White House officials, government leaders, political experts and congressional staff during her trip. •Susan Schnebel, assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction met recently with Suffolk County P.O. George Lynagh, the district's former DARE officer.
The county recently disbanded DARE and replaced it with a program called Police Smart. Students will take part in two 45 minute sessions a year, focusing bullying, diversity, bike safety, media literacy, gun safety, drug abuse and other issues. Officer Lynagh will tailor the lessons for the district.
