Copiague Library trustee: Arthur Castellano
by Tiffany Elliott

For more than 20 years, Copiague resident Arthur G. Castellano volunteered his time as a trustee on the Copiague Library Board. He died suddenly March 8, 2008.

"He was a brilliant man who shaped our library into the best in Suffolk County," said Copiague Librarian Debra Mitchell, who knew him for more than 20 years. "He was such a caring, humble man who helped any one in any way he could, personally or professionally."

Born January 23, 1931, he later worked as an executive for the Bell Atlantic Phone Company (now Verizon) for many years before his retirement. For two decades, he served in many capacities as an elected trustee of the Copiague Public Library, most recently as the vice president.

Mr. Castellano leaves behind his wife, Ruth; his children: Mary Ann Friend, Jane Zollo and her husband Charles, Patricia Dove and John and his wife Donna; his grandchildren: Alexander, Megan, Amy, David, Zoe, Olivia and Sophia; as well as other family members and friends.

He reposed at the D'Andrea Brothers Funeral Home in Copiague on March 10 and 11, 2008. A Funeral Mass was said March 12, 2008 at St. Joseph's E.C. Church in Babylon followed by private interment.
