George Belajac, U.S. postal employee, 92 Longtime Massapequa resident and retired U.S. Postal employee George Belajac died March 17, 2008 at his home. He was 92. He was born April 27, 1915 in Staten Island to Elias and Helen (Csapi), he was a decorated soldier during World War II in the U.S. Army who earned a Purple Heart, the Bronze Star, a Combat Infantry Badge and the European African Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon with one Battle Star. For many years before his retirement, he was a postal clerk at Kennedy International Airport in Jamaica, Queens. Mr. Belajac was a a devoted member of St. Martin's of Tours R.C. Church for over 40 years. He leaves behind his daughter: Ann Szwech and her husband Dennis; his grandchildren: Kenneth Szwech and his wife Lisa and Denise Szwech; his great grandchildren: Kenneth Szwech Jr., Spenser Szwech and Kyle Szwech. He was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Ann, in 1995.
A Prayer Service was conducted at the Powell Funeral Home in Amityville on March 18, 2008 by Dean Mike Aprile of St. Martin of Tours R.C. Church. Father Richard T. Stelter, pastor of St. Martin of Tours, officiated at a Mass of Christian Burial assisted by the Consolation Ministry and members of the family. Interment followed at the National Cemetery in Calverton, with Military Honors.
