Second Annual Energy Conference for Long Island Houses of Worship

The Long Island Interfaith Environmental Network (LIIEN) will be having its second annual conference featuring workshops on Energy Efficiency for Religious Congregations on Wed., April 16, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Molloy College Suffolk Center, 7180 Republic Airport, East Farmingdale. Since last year's very successful event attended by over 80 people of faith, LIIEN has been working with the Long Island Power Authority, National Grid, and alternative energy vendors to meet the unique energy demands of the Faith Community, and they will be present at the event. This important workshop will focus on progress made since the last event, how we are all called to be Good Stewards of the Earth, and what financial incentives are available for places of worship to become more energy efficient -so houses of worship can "be green to save green." LIIEN was formed as the local voice of a growing nation-wide awareness of the ethical call towards care for creation. It is coordinated by the Neighborhood Network and is made up of various faithbased organizations including representatives from Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Huntington, St. Martin of Tours Outreach in Amityville, Sophia Garden, the Long Island Council of Churches, Molloy College, New York State Interfaith Power & Light, Hewlett-East Rockaway Jewish Center, Islamic Center of Long Island, Diocese of Rockville Centre, St. Lawrence the Martyr Church in Sayville, Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Shelter Rock, Unitarian Universalists of Stonybrook, First United Methodist Church in Amityville, and the Community United Methodist Church in Massapequa.
